Below is the bones of an article I wrote for Malaga Airport Guide but the overall principles will apply to all travel and may help you get a cheap airfare to Spain.
Many of the large travel companies have sophisticated flight search engines but they are unable to offer every flight because they don't get paid by everyone!
Each Airline only offers its own flights, so again, your stuck with their timetables and schedules.
So, you need to know, which airlines fly here, on which days and from which airport to be able to secure a cheap airfare to Spain.
Our frustration with finding this information is the basis of this website. We have produced a UK Airports to Malaga Directory section which lists everyone of the 23 Airports in the UK that serve Malaga Airport. It also lists every Airline and the days of the week they fly here. We have even added direct links to their websites for you to price check!
So, how else can you be sure that you have got a cheap airfare to Spain?

Just check with some "discount" Flight providers such as ebookers.com Flights they may have negotiated a Special offer.
Don t forget the large carriers, British Airways offer some good deals and code share with Iberia
Think about flying out with one airline and back with another.
It could be cheaper to buy a one way ticket each way,
(hard to believe I know).Book well in advance, the longer the better
Busier Airports with more flights tend to offer a cheap airfare to Spain
Fly out from one airport and back to another
Try and fly midweek-midweek.

As I write this article on 04th June 2004, everyone and I mean everyone, are telling me that Monarch offer the best overall package for price, service and comfort!
But close on their heels seems to be British Airways, the great thing about BA, they not only offer a cheap airfare to Spain but they also "Code Share" with Iberia, Spain's national carrier.
What is Code Share?
Basically they both book tickets and offers for the same flights, they share the planes and flight slots depending on who took the bookings or who has the planes available, this gives you the customer a much much better chance of reducing any delays as in effect you have 2 large carriers to work with.
