Spanish Property

How do you find out about property in Spain, where do you start to look.

Actually this page could be the least looked at page on the whole site. Every Sunday newspaper and TV program seems to be running a Spanish Property section.

But read on you might find some interesting tips and ideas for places to look for property in Spain...

Newspapers

The usual suspects here, the Mail on Saturday, The Sunday Times, Loot and Daltons weekly are the best resources for newspaper research on Spanish Property.

If you are visiting Spain then there are literally hundreds of Property magazines. Most of these are free and can be found in the entrances to supermarkets, restaurants and most cafes.

Internet

The beauty of the internet is that it is anonymous, you can browse 'till your hearts content and it is without doubt the best source of information for property in Spain.

Exhibitions

I picked up last weeks Sunday Times as I wrote this and there are 3 overseas exhibitions in the UK selling property in Spain, over the next few weeks. Most of them are held in the major cities and in the big Hotels, keep your eyes peeled.

The Exhibitions are a good way to gather "real information from real people" and you are able to talk to Solicitors, Mortgage Brokers etc all at the same time.

Be careful that you don't get carried away at the exhibitions and part with any cash, especially if its your first time and you haven't even been to the area where the property is!!!

Inspection Visits.

Most of the Estate Agents offer free or subsidised inspection trips for you to view property in Spain, they typically include flights, airport transfers and accommodation.

BUT as the saying goes...

There is no such thing as a free lunch!

Some people I know have managed to eek out a little free time on these visits but for most people its the hard sale, the big pitch. Expect to be with the Estate Agent from just after breakfast until well into the evening.

They control what you see, in what order and when.

You wont get a chance to speak to other Estate Agents or private property sellers whilst you are there.

Don't get me wrong, I am not condemning them, they are a good way to view property in Spain, I am just letting you know what to expect.

Someone has to pay for the trip!

I would go for the inspection trip at a later date, not your first time, by then you will be wiser and more able to define the area of your search.

Property Forums

If you have never visited an internet Forum you must try.

They are a goldmine of information and there is always someone online to give you advice and guidance through their own experience of property in Spain or through their knowledge.
