Taxis at Malaga Airport
Ok, lets talk about Taxis at Malaga Airport. There is a taxi rank as you come out of the arrivals hall and turn right. Generally there is a pretty orderly queue.
However in the summer it can get very busy, very hot and well you may well stand there wishing you booked a private transfer where you are met in the arrivals hall and taken to your destination straight away. Why stand in a queue for an hour when you could be sunbathing!
You could also take Malaga train or Malaga bus. The trains only go as far as Fuengirola whilst the bus, you either take the direct bus to Marbella or take the bus into Malaga City and then change.
Malaga Airport Taxis only take a maximum of 4 people including any children, if there are more than 4 people then it is advisable to book private Malaga Airport Transfers through Shuttle Direct. Get a price, its more likely 2 taxis will cost a lot more than a Malaga Private transfers.
The Malaga Airport Taxis are not on a meter on the Costa Del Sol but they do have a book which lists all the fares that they should charge. They are not always forthcoming with the book, although they do produce it when asked. There is also a list of Malaga Airport Taxis fares on the main airport wall, just by the taxi rank although sometimes this is covered up.
The minimum charge for a taxi from the airport is approx €15.00.. The charges change quite a bit for different hours of the day and holidays but generally its around €1.25-1.30 per km remembering the minimum charge from the airport is €14.00 and elsewhere normally around €6.00.
How Much is a Taxi from Malaga Airport to?
Here is a rough guide for Malaga Taxis and Private Transfers so you can make some cost comparisons. In some cases the private transfers are a little more expensive but that will be the price that you pay, whereas sometimes the taxi drivers can often charge more and take advantage if you don't speak Spanish.
Example - Return Taxi from Malaga Airport to Algeciras will be anything between €280 and €340. Private Transfers come up at €344.12 and at that price for me it's a no brainer and I would book the private transfer. You know exactly what you are paying, are met in the arrivals hall and the driver speaks your own language.

Tips on getting a Taxi from Malaga Airport to?
1) Before getting in the taxi - establish a price. If you are unsure ask to see the book (el libro de precios)
2) If you are going to Marbella or further ask the driver to go via the Toll (Peage) It's around €5.50 in summer but its a far safer road to be on. The Coast Road is very windy and if you are not a great passenger - you won't like it.
3) If the Private Transfers is approx same price or slightly more - book a private transfer. Its far easier being met in the arrivals hall by someone who speaks your language and knows exactly where you are going to. Its worth paying a little more for the peace of mind of not getting ripped off too!.
4) Malaga Car Hire sometimes is often cheaper than a return taxi journey as this the case above. A return taxi journey from Malaga Airport to Puerto Banus will be around €160. To hire a car for a week from just €93 (plus the extras). But well worth looking into as there is so much more to explore along the Costa Del Sol.
